West Virginia Internet Exchange

A neutral, resilient, and high-performance Internet Exchange Point strengthening connectivity across West Virginia and Kentucky.

About WVIX

The West Virginia Internet Exchange (WVIX), established in 2023, is West Virginia’s first Internet Exchange (IX) and operates as a 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization registered with the Internal Revenue Service.

An Internet Exchange is a physical switching platform where networks—such as ISPs, data centers, educational institutions, enterprises, and content providers—connect directly to exchange traffic. This direct interconnection improves performance by reducing latency and lowering costs by avoiding unnecessary third-party transit paths.

As a nonprofit, WVIX is focused on strengthening internet performance across West Virginia and neighboring states by keeping regional traffic local, improving reliability, and supporting long-term digital infrastructure and economic growth.

WVIX membership and port costs are free of charge. To help the fabric expand and better serve the internet ecosystem, we welcome support through donations of colocation space, equipment, or transport.
